VIDEO: Herm Edwards Rookie Symposium Speech

You gotta give it to Herm Edwards -- he knows how to speak. The former Kansas City Chiefs head coach gave a speech to 155 rookies at the NFLPA's version of the rookie symposium, video of which you can see below.

Edwards’ basic message was to remember the cross between talent and production. Your talent is natural and every rookie has some semblance of talent. But the ones that make it in the NFL -- and stay there -- are the ones that can combine that talent with production.

Some might say this was a sermon and not a speech because Edwards really does come across as a preacher. That said, he does have the background to back it up. He went undrafted into the NFL before breaking in and staying in the league for 10 years. From there, he got into coaching for two decades, including two stints as a head coach, before moving to ESPN as an NFL analyst.

While Edwards did tell players they should never be late because of the big shiny watches he sees them wearing, he didn’t give them one of his most famous pieces of advice: “Nothing good happens after midnight.”
