The New York Giants and free agent WR Plaxico Burress were reportedly scheduled to meet on Wednesday but they may have to talk by phone instead. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello has told the Star-Ledger that, actually, teams can't meet with players at neutral locations.
NFL Free Agency: Plaxico Burress, Giants Can’t Meet Yet
At least until Friday at 6:00 p.m. (ET) when full free agency is open and players can openly sign. Right now, it’s just a negotiation period.
So the two sides can’t physically meet until Friday night but because NFL free agency is such a fluid situation it’s possible Burress (or the Giants) will have already moved on by that point. Reportedly, Tom Coughlin and Co. want to check Burress’ mental state and gauge his interest in returning to New York.
So if the two sides do indeed meet, it’ll be on Friday, at the earliest.
