Free agent running back Willis McGahee will sign a three year deal with the Denver Broncos, sources reported Friday. As expected, the Baltimore Ravens let McGahee go earlier this week, and now he’s found a new home in Denver.
Willis McGahee To The Denver Broncos With $7.5 Million Contract
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal will be worth $7.5 million over three years, with $3 million guaranteed. McGahee has battled injuries in recent years, and over the past two years in Baltimore he saw his role dramatically reduced thanks to the emergence of Ray Rice as the Ravens’ feature back. His release was as much a function of Rice’s emergence as any perceived decline in ability.
As for his new home in Denver, he’ll join Knowshon Moreno in the Broncos backfield, where he’s likely to see the field a lot more often than he did in Baltimore. For the Broncos’ part, it gives them a proven veteran to pair with the second-year Moreno in the backfield, and McGahee comes to Denver at a relatively cheap cost, with just $3 million guaranteed.
