NFL Free Agency 2011: Willis McGahee To The Broncos Is Official

Willis McGahee has passed his physical and is officially a member of the Denver Broncos. After being victimized by the Baltimore Ravens' purge of veterans in the aftermath of the lockout (which seems forever ago, am I right?), McGahee has latched on to a team desperate for veteran running backs in the Broncos.

McGahee’s contract is for $9.5 million over four years,, which is a very long time for a 29-year-old running back playing on 45-year-old knees, especially when he’s coming off a career-worst season. McGahee only carried the ball 100 times last season for 380 yards and 5 touchdowns.

McGahee has set career lows in yardage each of the past three seasons, which could be due to the fact that the Ravens have used him less, but age can not be ignored for running backs. Shaun Alexander and LaDanian Tomlinson have proved in recent years that running backs fall from the elite to the pedestrian can be a precipitous one.
