Tarvaris Jackson was never really given a fair chance to be named the opening day starter during his tenure with the Minnesota Vikings, but that won't be the case with his new team. In fact, he's apparently already been named the Seattle Seahawks starter after signing with the team earlier this week.
Tarvaris Jackson Named Seahawks Starter; Contract Terms Released
Pete Carroll announced Jackson would be the No. 1 quarterback on the Seahawks, according to a Tweet on Saturday afternoon from ESPN’s John Clayton. Clayton also reports that Jackson’s contract with Seattle is worth $8 million over the course of the next two seasons.
Jackson's only competition in Seattle after Matt Hasselbeck left for the Tennessee Titans in free agency is Charlie Whitehurst so it isn't exactly surprisng that head coach Pete Carroll would decide to ride the new guy his front office just signed, but Jackson will have to compete with Whitehurst eventually.
Whitehurst will compete for starting job once he gets up to speed on the offense, according to Danny O’Neill of the Seattle Times, but Jackson will at least be the team’s opening day starter.
This is a quarterback battle only the mothers of these two players could love, methinks.
