Plaxico Burress Not High On Philadelphia Eagles’ Wish List, According To Report

Philly.com throws cold water on recent rumors that wide receiver Plaxico Burress could be headed to Philadelphia:

As for Burress and the Eagles' interest in the 33-year-old, it isn't likely to amount to much of anything.

When reports surfaced that the Eagles were first in line for Burress, the information was not leaked from their camp, team sources indicated. The Eagles remain neutral. They're nowhere near as interested as they were in Vick, post-incarceration, but they're not going to broadcast it.

The amount of speculation about Burress has been way out of line with his actual likely impact on the field. Philly.com notes that, for all the talk about Burress, he remains a low priority for most NFL teams. As he should be - yes, he was once an exciting player, but now he’s 33, an age when most receivers are past their prime, and he’s spent two years away from the game.

On top of that, the Burress-to-the-Eagles made about as much sense as the Burress-to-the-Steelers rumors that came out a couple weeks back, which is to say not much. The Eagles have two good young receivers in DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin, plus a good receiving running back in LeSean McCoy and a receiving tight end in Brent Celek. There's just no need for Burress in Philadelphia, except as a role player. So if the Eagles can get him on the cheap, then fine, but if not, there's no reason for them to sign him.
