Free agent Michael Clayton agreed to terms with the New York Giants on Tuesday, adding another body to what was already a crowded receiving corps. Clayton signed the Giants after midseason last year, catching just two passes for 19 yards in six games.

There are certain to be receiver casualties once rosters are cut down to 53 men. Currently, Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham, Jerrel Jernigan, Domenik Hixon, Victor Cruz, Devin Thomas and Ramses Barden are all under contract with the G-men, with Steve Smith expected to re-sign.
While Clayton brings size and a veteran presence, it is clear that his prime is well behind him. Prior to joining the Giants last season, he was playing the UFL. He was brought to New York to fill out a depth chart that had been hammered with injuries. The corps returns relatively much healthier heading into 2011, likely giving Clayton a minimal role at best even if he makes it past roster cuts.
