Week 3 preseason highlights, including: a last-minute touchdown drive engineered by Tyrod Taylor, Michael Vick leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a win, and Andy Dalton overshadowing Cam Newton.
Ray Lewis Plays Commentator During Baltimore Ravens’ Last-Second Win
Here’s Lewis, taking over as the play-by-play announcer as the Ravens find the end zone with under a minute to go to down the Washington Redskins (via AwfulAnnouncingBGreen on Youtube).
Even if all he could get out was “Oh he faked it! Oh! Oh! Oh!,” it was still must-see TV. You could tell ESPN had its finger on the dump button and the announcers were nervous Lewis might drop a string of expletives, but it all added to the entertainment of having the Ravens’ linebacker on the mic during a heated moment.

The good news is that Newton seems to recognize what he’s not doing well. That’s the first step in trying to fix the problem (which really isn’t a major problem considering he’s thrown just 52 preseason passes in his entire career). As you can see in the quote below from Newton, he seems to understand what they’re trying to do so it’s not like he’s completely lost.
It’s just a matter of doing it consistently, which separates bad quarterbacks from good quarterbacks.

Browns Vs. Eagles Score: Michael Vick Leads Philadelphia To 24-14 Win
From there it was all gravy, as Philadelphia dominated an overmatched Cleveland defense. Vick led two more scoring drives before he took his place on the bench, including an eight-yard scramble that gave the Eagles a 17-0 lead going into the half. The 31-year-old quarterback finished 10-of-18 for 98 yards, with 24 additional rushing yards and a touchdown.

Dalton led four scoring drives in the first half to carry Cincinnati to an early lead, punctuated by a blistering 40-yard touchdown bomb to Green midway through the second quarter. The rookie-to-rookie connection was the first touchdown of either man’s professional career, and potentially could be a sign of things to come for the beleaguered Bengals franchise. Dalton ended the game 11-of-17, with 130 yards and a touchdown.
But where one rookie quarterback shined, the other struggled. Panthers’ first round pick Cam Newton once again submitted an unremarkable performance, as the Carolina offense continually failed to find a rhythm. Outside of a mighty 16-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, Newton labored to move the Panther attack, finishing just 6-of-19 for 75 yards.

Andy Dalton is running an efficient offense, throwing 11-for-17 for 130 yards and a touchdown. Cam Newton, on the hand, is struggling immensely as the Panthers continually fail to sustain drives. The number one overall pick is just 3-for-12 with 43 yards and two sacks.

That’s all there is to glow about for Philadelphia though, as Vick once again looks shaky in the preseason. The 31-year-old fumbled two times in the opening quarter, while completing just three of his seven passing attempts.

On 3rd and 11, Newton took off up the middle and showed off that athleticism and skill that made him the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Newton is 1-of-4 for 9 passing yards so far in the game, so it’s a good thing he’s got those legs to bail him out from time to time. That one completion was to Steve Smith.
