Albert Haynesworth Still Not Practicing For New England Patriots

Albert Haynesworth sits out his fourth straight practice Tuesday, though what’s ailing him is unclear.

New England Patriots defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth missed his fourth straight practice on Tuesday, and exactly why is still unclear. Conditioning shouldn’t be the issue, considering he passed his test and had been dominating early on in camp. Coach Bill Belichick gave a typically frustrating answer, saying only that Haynesworth “is in the day-to-day category.”

“Hopefully he’ll be out there in a day, a matter of days,” Belicheck said. “Unfortunately we have a number of players in that category.”

Belichick refused to specify what, exactly, was ailing Haynesworth, though the defensive tackle has had a history of knee problems. The timeline given amounts to little more than “he’ll return sometime,” so odds are we won’t find out whether this is anything serious or simple precaution until he is actually back practicing or the regular season begins.

Newly-acquired Shaun Ellis was also held out of practice as day-to-day with the same non-diagnosis. Belichick did say that players missing practice today likely won't play in the Patriots preseason opener against the Jaguars on Thursday.
