In the third quarter of Sunday's game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons, Dunta Robinson laid a hit on Eagles receiver Jeremy Maclin that involved him leading with his helmet. The NBC announcers on Sunday Night Football immediately recognized it as an illegal hit as Robinson lead with his helmet.
Dunta Robinson Doesn’t Think Hit On Jeremy Maclin Was Illegal Or Dirty
The NFL has put more stringent rules in place to protect players, like receivers, and has the ability to suspend players for actions such as Robinson’s, if they deem it to be an illegal hit. They’ve yet to suspend anyone but we’re wondering if Robinson will be the first victim.
For his part, Robinson said after the game he doesn’t think it was an illegal hit.
I saw a guy catch the ball and I saw him turn up field And it’s my job to get him on the ground. This is a physical game. It’s not about being dirty, I’m not dirty and I’ve never been labeled as a dirty player, but I do play hard. It’s just about getting guys on the ground. Like I said, it’s a rough game and you play until the whistle blows. So I didn’t think it was an illegal or dirty hit.
Replays strongly suggest that the NFL will disagree with Robinson’s interpretation of the play. We’ll see what the league says about it later this week.
