Midway through the third quarter of the Sunday Night Football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons, Michael Vick hit Jeremy Maclin across the middle of the field on a crossing route and, as Maclin caught the ball, he was met by cornerback Dunta Robinson.
VIDEO: Dunta Robinson’s Hit On Jeremy Maclin, Which Will Likely Draw Punishment From NFL
Falcons CB Dunta Robinson laid an illegal hit on WR Jeremy Maclin in Sunday’s game against the Eagles and he can expect to hear from the league office about that.
Robinson lead with his head to hit Maclin, as you can see in the video below:
Maclin was down for a minute before getting back up but it was clear to the announcers that Robinson’s hit was illegal.
“Unbelievable,” NBC announcer Cris Collinsworth said. “Unbelievable. Dunta Robinson did it again.”
Collinsworth was referencing an illegal hit Robinson laid on DeSean Jackson last year that resulted in a $50,000 fine. That was the week when James Harrison of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Brandon Meriweather of the New England Patriots had huge hits -- which were illegal -- that catapulted the league's sensitivity to illegal hits in the NFL.
That Robinson has another illegal hit on an Eagles player is, as Collinsworth says, unbelievable.
It'll be interesting to see how the league reacts to this. Will Robinson receive an even bigger fine? Or will he be suspended? At some point, the league has to start suspending players for these hits. The money isn't always a large portion of their paycheck so that doesn't necessarily get their attention. What will get their attention, though, is removing them from the next game.
