New York Giants safety Deon Grant will not be disciplined by the NFL for faking an injury in the first quarter of his team’s Monday Night Football game with the St. Louis Rams, according to the New York Daily News.
No Discipline From NFL For Giants Fake Injuries
Head coach Tom Coughlin said yesterday that he believed Grant to be injured on the play. That was all it took for the NFL to overlook Grant’s dive, as league policy states that a player cannot be punished for faking an injury unless there is an admission of guilt.
Grant and Jacquian Williams both hit the ground after an eight-yard run by Cadillac Williams put the Rams at the Giants seven-yard line. The ploy gave the Giants defense a little breather, and the Rams settled for a field goal after two incomplete passes.
Rams QB Sam Bradford told the press that he heard a player say “someone go down.” The Giants had been unable to make substitutions or get their defense lined up on the play.
