Bengals’ Jerome Simpson, Anthony Collins ‘Involved’ In Drug Investigation

A pair of Cincinnati Bengals were at house where drugs intercepted by authorities were delivered.

It’s bad enough for a wide receiver when something he’s trying to catch is intercepted. It’s even worse when that something is a marijuana shipment, and the people intercepting it are law enforcement officers. All of this allegedly, of course.

Cincinnati Bengals teammates Jerome Simpson and Anthony Collins, both 25, were at Simpson’s home in Crestview Hills, Ky., yesterday when a package allegedly containing 2.5 pounds of marijuana arrived at the house in what authorities called a controlled delivery.

A third man signed for the package, and the Bengals are decrying “rumors,” which is a bit less persuasive when at least one agency’s spokeswoman was willing to confirm the two were detained on the record. And local sports newstypes are already confirming that the players are involved. And if the two players are involved, this isn’t your run-of-the-mill possession case.

“The house was set up as a potential distribution network,” said Tommy LaNier, head of the National Marijuana Initiative, a group that is funded by the Office of National Drug Control Policy and helps coordinate marijuana enforcement operations around the United States.

And to see this happen to an organization so well-known for making its players model citizens.
