Tony Romo got most of the attention from ESPN's Monday Night Football announcing crew, but he wasn't the only member of the Cowboys' backfield who played through a serious injury. Running back Felix Jones, who suffered a separated shoulder in Week 2 and played Monday wearing a shoulder brace, carried the ball 14 times for 114 yards, adding another 40 yards through the air on three receptions.
Felix Jones Update: Cowboys RB Shines, May Be Injured Again
Jones had long runs of 29 and 40 yards on Monday, which, coincidentally, add up to the same number of rushing yards he tallied in the first two games combined. Needless to say, the breakout game was a welcome surprise for the Cowboys, especially considering how poorly the offensive line performed for much of the game.
Unfortunately, Jones’ game ended on a sour note, as he appeared to re-injure his shoulder on Dallas’ second-to-last drive and was not on the field during the team’s final drive. From The Oklahoman:
Jones came off the field and didn’t return.
He was a big part of the drive before he was injured. He ran three times for 52 yards, including a 40-yard burst on the second play of the drive.
“He had one of his best games as a Cowboy,” said Dallas coach Jason Garrett, who didn’t address Jones’ apparent injury in his postgame remarks.
ESPN's announcers never addressed Jones' injury, but it was confirmed by the Cowboys' radio broadcast. His status will undoubtedly be addressed early this week, so stay tuned. The Monday night game gives Jones and the rest of the ailing Cowboys a short week to recover before the unbeaten Detroit Lions travel to Dallas on Sunday.
