Curtis Painter Could Get Starting Nod For Colts With Kerry Collins’ Injury

The drama of the Indianapolis Colts quarterback situation continues as the team is reportedly preparing Curtis Painter to start Monday night's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kerry Collins, who was signed over the offseason with Peyton Manning's status in doubt, suffered an injury last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers and missed practice again on Thursday.

That means the team could be preparing for the Bucs game with Painter as their starter. Considering the Colts have had one of the greatest quarterbacks in history over the last 13 years, this is quite a step down.

Painter entered the Steelers game in relief last week completing 5-of-11 passes for 60 yards. Last season Painter had just eight completions on 28 attempts for 83 yards. Experience certainly isn’t his strong suit.

The Colts signed Collins to a deal that will pay him $4 million this year so they clearly thought he could play significant snaps. The team brought back Dan Orlovsky this week, which is another sign that Collins could be sitting on Monday.

SB Nation’s Stampede Blue has been highly critical of Painter and even suggests starting Orlovsky this week.
