The 49ers' $3 million gamble on Braylon Edwards has totally paid off, as news came down that Roger Goodell would not be suspending the wide receiver after he plead guilty to a DUI in July.
Braylon Edwards’ DUI Won’t Result In Suspension By NFL
The news came in the wake of similar decisions on Kenny Britt and Aqib Talib, both of whom got into legal trouble during the lockout, neither of whom were suspended.
The difference with Edwards, of course, is that he committed the DUI during the 2010 football season, so the logic of not punishing players for their actions while they weren’t allowed to work doesn’t even apply. It’s a puzzling decision from the commissioner who seems more and more like he’s making this stuff up as he goes along after Terrelle Pryor’s baffling suspension.
Edwards was reportedly levied with a $50,000 fine for the DUI in accordance with the league’s substance abuse policy. That worries only Edwards, as Niner fans can breathe easy now that one of their marquee acquisitions is eligible to play all 16 games.
