Steve Spagnuolo Likely Headed To Philadelphia Eagles, According To Report

The Eagles are expected to hire former Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo, according to a report.

The St. Louis Rams fired head coach Steve Spagnuolo on Black Monday after he won 10 games in three years with the Rams. Despite his poor record, Spagnuolo's reputation as a defensive coordinator didn't take a big hit, which might be why he's reportedly headed to the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, Spagnuolo is expected to join Andy Reid’s staff in Philadelphia in some capacity by the end of the week.

The Eagles released a secondary coach over the weekend, so they have flexibility to move around the staff and bring Spagnuolo back as an assistant head coach, if not defensive coordinator. If Andy Reid wants to retain embattled defensive coordinator Juan Castillo in some other capacity, that's a possibility as well, according to league sources.

As the Philly Inquirer notes, Reid is on vacation until the end of the week so an announcement may not come until he returns.

Before joining the New York Giants from 2007-09, Spagnuolo worked under Jim Johnson in Philadelphia for eight years so that's where the connection to the Eagles comes from.
