“Everybody assumes that because my father represents Jeff Fisher, there’s a natural fit. His job is to represent Jeff Fisher; our job is to find the right head coach for the Rams,” Demoff explained. “I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion that because I know someone who happens to know Jeff well, that I know Jeff well, that Jeff’s going to be our head coach.”
“I know that makes for great conjecture, great internet fodder...but it’s completely unfounded,” Demoff said.

The assistant coaches outside of McDaniels have their contracts expiring in February but McDaniels is not part of that group. He remains with the Rams, for now.
It’s still possible that the Rams hire a new head coach and then McDaniels is fired. In fact, I’d say that’s likely at this point, especially if the Rams pick is Jeff Fisher.

The Rams are now in the market for a new head coach and a new GM. St. Louis should be an attractive place to look considering they have a young quarterback, lots of salary cap room and the No. 2 pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Despite the struggles lately, they have a lot going for them (which sounds strange to say about a two-win team).

The only problem? The Rams stunk it up this year. They finished 2-14 this year which ultimately cost Spagnuolo his job.
The remaining question is whether GM Billy Devaney will follow him out the door. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported on Sunday that Devaney was expected to be fired as well.

The loss to the 49ers gave the Rams a 2-14 record this year and a cumulative 10-38 record in three seasons under Spagnuolo.
Billy Devaney came to St. Louis at the end of the 2008 regular season after being an assistant GM with the Atlanta Falcons. Hiring Spagnuolo was his first big decision as the Rams GM.

Firings often come down on Black Monday, the day after the regular season ends, which falls on January 2, 2011. Spagnuolo and perhaps even GM Billy Devaney could be replaced and, though we’ll hear plenty of candidates names pop up, the early names attached to the job are Jeff Fisher (via NFL Network) and Jon Gruden (via San Diego Union Tribune). Both are top names on the market so we’ll hear Fisher and Gruden attached to multiple jobs this year.
Spagnuolo led the Rams to a seven-win season in 2010 and with a young quarterback in Sam Bradford they were expected to take a leap in 2011 but that never came. Instead, the Rams were among the league’s most disappointing teams for a variety of reasons.

If both dominoes fall in San Diego, Kroenke would target Smith to take over the Rams football operations.
After owning 40 percent of the Rams since 1995, Kroenke exercised his option to purchase the remaining portion of the franchise after the 2009 season. The Rams went 7-9 and nearly won the NFC West in 2010, but have won just two games in 2011 and will finish in last place for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
