Steve Spagnuolo To Be Fired As St. Louis Rams Head Coach, According To Report

St. Louis fires their coach and GM in the aftermath of a 2-14 season.

According to a report from ESPN, the St. Louis Rams wasted little time cleaning house in the aftermath of their 34-27 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday:

Chris Mortensen
Rams will fire coach Steve Spagnuolo and GM Billy Devaney, per team source.

The loss to the 49ers gave the Rams a 2-14 record this year and a cumulative 10-38 record in three seasons under Spagnuolo.

After two years as a defensive coordinator of the New York Giants, including helping the Giants stun the 18-0 New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, the 52-year old Spagnuolo was seen as one of the rising stars in the NFL's coaching ranks.

Billy Devaney came to St. Louis at the end of the 2008 regular season after being an assistant GM with the Atlanta Falcons. Hiring Spagnuolo was his first big decision as the Rams GM.

The duo never had much success in St. Louis, going 1-15 in 2009 before a 7-9 season in 2010 and this year’s 2-14 disaster.

With the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, whoever replaces them will have a tough decision to make about whether to continue building around former No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford, who regressed in his second season out of Oklahoma.
