Steve Spagnuolo Bracing To Be Fired By Rams, According To Report

This isn't a surprise but the St. Louis Rams are expected to part ways with head coach Steve Spagnuolo after the season. Jason La Canfora reports Rams owner Stan Kroenke hasn't informed the coaching staff of any decisions yet but that Spagnuolo is bracing to be fired after the St. Louis Rams disappointing 2011 season winds.

Firings often come down on Black Monday, the day after the regular season ends, which falls on January 2, 2011. Spagnuolo and perhaps even GM Billy Devaney could be replaced and, though we’ll hear plenty of candidates names pop up, the early names attached to the job are Jeff Fisher (via NFL Network) and Jon Gruden (via San Diego Union Tribune). Both are top names on the market so we’ll hear Fisher and Gruden attached to multiple jobs this year.

The Rams job could be an attractive one to potential head coaches. Despite his struggles this year, Sam Bradford is one of the top young quarterbacks in the game, the team will be near the top in cap space available and they will likely hold the No. 1 or No. 2 pick in April's draft. Clearly, the job has a lot going for it.

Spagnuolo led the Rams to a seven-win season in 2010 and with a young quarterback in Sam Bradford they were expected to take a leap in 2011 but that never came. Instead, the Rams were among the league’s most disappointing teams for a variety of reasons.

Check out SB Nation’s Turf Show Times for more on Spagnuolo’s future.
