NFC Wild Card 2012: Lions Make First Playoff Appearance In Over A Decade

The Detroit Lions get set to take on the New Orleans Saints in the first round of the NFC playoffs in the Wild Card round. The Lions will have to play on the road, in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for their first playoff game in twelve years. Detroit last made the NFL playoffs in 1999 as the No. 6 seed in the NFC, finishing the season with an 8-8 record and backing into the playoffs losing their final four games.

The Lions were beaten by the Washington Redskins 27-13, with the Redskins holding a 27-0 lead after the first half of the game. The 2011 Detroit Lions however sport a much better team all around. Instead of Gus Frerotte they've got Matthew Stafford. They've also got Calvin Johnson and a defense who can get after the quarterback. They'll head to New Orleans hoping for a much different result than the Lions last playoff trip.

Check out Canal Street Chronicles for the latest on the Saints and Pride of Detroit for the latest on the Lions, and head on over to the SBNation NFL news hub for everything you need to know about the 2012 playoffs.
