NFC Wild Card 2012: Mike Smith Looking For First Playoff Win

The Atlanta Falcons are getting ready to travel to New York to take on the New York Giants and they'll be on the hunt to pick up their first postseason win since 2004. Despite the fact that this will be the third playoff appearance under head coach Mike Smith, the Falcons haven't won since Jim More Jr. was the coach and Michael Vick was the quarterback.

In Mike Smith's first trip to the playoffs with the Falcons, they were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round by Kurt Warner and the Arizona Cardinals, who wound up losing in the Super Bowl to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Last season, the Falcons wound up losing to the eventual Super Bowl Champions in the Green Bay Packers. The Falcons haven't played the Giants since the 2009 season however, a season the Falcons missed the playoffs.

Mike Smith has been a success thus far for Atlanta in his first head coaching gig, but he’s still looking for his first playoff win. “We have talent,” Smith told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “We have to play at a higher level than we’ve played all season to win in the playoffs.”

Check out Big Blue View for the latest on the Giants and The Falcoholic for the latest on the Falcons, and head on over to the SBNation NFL news hub for everything you need to know about the 2012 playoffs.
