Kansas City Chiefs Coaching Search Points To Romeo Crennel

The Chiefs fired head coach Todd Haley in December and named Romeo Crennel the interim coach. As of now, Crennel remains the most likely candidate to assume the full-time position.

The Kansas City Chiefs coaching search isn't expected to be a long, drawn-out process. That's because they might already have their guy. The Chiefs, after firing Todd Haley, named Romeo Crennel the interim head coach and many expect him to ultimately receive the full-time job.

Crennel took over the Chiefs in the final three games going 2-1 -- beating two playoff teams (Packers and Broncos) and losing in overtime to the Raiders. The players revere him, which was one of the reasons he was given the interim job. GM Scott Pioli has familiarity with him as well, which should help.

Crennel said that Pioli promised him a chance to interview for the job, which will come soon with the season now over.

The only coaching rumors surrounding the Chiefs is the offensive coordinator position. Current OC Bill Muir is reportedly "likely" to retire and the Chiefs have been connected to a couple of names for that position, including Josh McDaniels (Rams) and Mike McCoy (Broncos). Both of those guys are under contract elsewhere, though, so they're not legitimate candidates right now.

The Chiefs haven’t been connected to any other head coaches at this point so Crennel certainly seems like the most likely candidate.
