Falcons Vs. Giants, NFL Playoffs 2012: New York Has Three Straight Wins Over Atlanta

The New York Giants only barely made the 2012 NFL Playoffs, but they meet an Atlanta Falcons team that has had its trouble with the Giants of late. New York has won the last three in the series, though just one since Matt Ryan came to town.

That win, a 34-31 one in 2009, ended a Giants losing streak and was one of the better games of the 2009 regular season — the two teams combined for over 800 yards, and Atlanta rallied from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime before a Lawrence Tynes field goal won it for New York.

Prior to the Giants’ three straight wins in the late 2000s, the pre- and early-Eli Manning Giants struggled with Atlanta, dropping three games from 2002 to 2004, and scoring just 27 points in those contests. Both teams have other three-game winning streaks in the series history, too, with the Giants reeling one off in the 1980s and the Falcons scoring theirs in the 1970s.

SB Nation’s assessment of Wild Card Weekend teams’ Super Bowl prospects doesn’t care for the Giants or Falcons very much, but Andrew Sharp is looking forward to seeing Victor Cruz and Roddy White in the same game.
