NFC Wild Card 2012, Falcons Vs. Giants: John Abraham Will Play Every Defensive Snap

The Atlanta Falcons will need to get to New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning with the pass rush. A big part of the Falcons pass rush has been defensive end John Abraham, who picked up 9.5 sacks during the regular season in 15 games. Abraham dealt with a groin injury for some of the season, but he also rotated heavily with back ups Kroy Biermann and Ray Edwards during the year.

Now that the playoffs have come around however, the plan is to unleash Abraham for the full duration of the game. “We’ve had him on a play count all season long, and now it’s an opportunity for us to go and extend his snaps as we get into the postseason,” Falcons coach Mike Smith told the Atlanta Journal Constitution Thursday. The Giants offensive line has struggled to protect Manning the past few games, so Abraham and the Falcons look to see if limiting his reps to keep him fresh was the right idea.
