Seahawks Vs. Rams, Week 4: Seahawks fans react to another close loss

The Seahawks lost to the Rams 19-13 in a game which showed the Seahawks’ strengths and weaknesses.

The Seattle Seahawks lost 19-13 to the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, dropping them to 0-2 in the NFC West. It was second one-possession loss for the Seahawks this season and in both cases Seattle was driving in for the winning score, but came up just short.

Through the first four weeks of the season, the Seahawks have proven to have one of the NFL's best defenses. They've also proven to have one of the worst passing offenses. Some of that is by design, an effort to protect rookie quarterback Russell Wilson, but as Danny Kelly of Field Gulls points out, that style will lead to a lot of close games.

The Seahawks’ formula is: strong defense, strong special teams, strong running game, take care of the football, force turnovers. Right now, a strong passing game is not part of that formula.

The formula of football in which the Seahawks’ are choosing to play dictates that they’ll very often be in close games, against pretty much any and every opponent in the NFL.

While that style could work and might even get Seattle into playoff contention, there was a major element missing on Sunday.

This brand of football also requires discipline with the football and that was one major issue today. Russell Wilson threw three picks and when you give the opposing team three extra drives a game, this formula is essentially untenable.

It was a rough start for Wilson who as Kelly put it, “didn’t inspire a whole ton of confidence” on Sunday. The Seahawks will head to Carolina to face the Panthers next week but for now they sit at 2-2 and last place in the NFC West.
