AFC East injury update: Santonio Holmes awaiting MRI

The New York Jets saw Santonio Holmes go to the ground without being touched just a week after Darrelle Revis tore his ACL on a similar non-contact injury. New York will find out more about Holmes’ injury when he undergoes an MRI on his left foot Monday.

Debby Wong-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The New York Jets are awaiting word on the severity of wide receiver Santonio Holmes' injury, which caused him to cough up the ball despite a lack of contact in the team's blowout loss to San Francisco.

Holmes was untouched as he crumpled to the ground and threw the ball in the air in pain. He needed to be carted off the field and was unable to put pressure on his left foot, needing crutches and a boot. Rex Ryan did not provide a post-game update on Holmes' status, although it is known Holmes will get an MRI to judge the severity of the injury Monday. In addition to any long-term effects, the injury cost the Jets seven points, as San Francisco cornerback Carlos Rogers easily scooped up the ball ran it in for a 51-yard score.

Also leaving the game with no return for the Jets were tight end Dedrick Epps, who also fumbled immediately after hurting his knee in the second quarter, and fullback John Conner, who hurt his hamstring in the second quarter.

The Buffalo Bills lost a pair of offensive linemen in Sunday's loss to the New England Patriots: The team saw left tackle Cordy Glenn leave after a player fell on the back of his leg. His ankle injury has him termed as questionable for next week's game with Chris Hairston filling in. Right guard Kraig Urbik also suffered an ankle injury, with Chan Gailey saying he would be out for "a while." Two of Ryan Fitzpatrick's passing targets in Sunday's loss to the New England Patriots suffered head injuries in the game: tight end Scott Chandler, who caught two early touchdowns, might play next week, while wide receiver Donald Jones' status will be updated on Wednesday.

Dont'a Hightower left the game for the New England Patriots with a gimpy hamstring, although he is apparently fine and should be good to go next week. The Miami Dolphins were lucky enough to leave their game against the the Arizona Cardinals without any injuries, although they didn't come away with the win, falling 24-21 in overtime.
