Darrelle Revis injury: Jets place star CB on IR, activate Antonio Allen

According to a tweet from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the New York Jets have placed cornerback Darrelle Revis on injured reserve with a torn left ACL and have signed strong safety Antonio Allen from the practice squad.

The defensive back’s season officially ended once he was scheduled to have surgery to repair his torn ACL. The surgery will take place on Thursday, Oct. 18. The Jets held out hope of a late playoffs return for Revis, but the scheduled surgery and IR placement officially ends that dream.

Revis tore his ACL in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins, a game the Jets won. The Jets have lost the two games that followed and are now 2-3 on the season, tied for second place in the AFC East with the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins.

Revis recorded 11 tackles and one interception this season before he was hurt.

Allen is a 2012 seventh-round draft pick out of South Carolina.
