Jaguars vs. Packers game recap: Green Bay holds on to win, 24-15

The Packers moved to 5-3 despite an offensive day less spectacular than usual.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers finished 22-of-35 for 186 yards and two touchdowns, and the Packers defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars, 24-15.

The Packers offense wasn't at full strength Sunday -- wide receiver Jordy Nelson did not play with an injured hamstring -- and it didn't rack up yards and points at its typical pace. But a fourth-quarter touchdown from Rodgers to Donald Driver gave the Packers a two-possession lead it would not squander.

Jacksonville scored its only touchdown of the game when, just before halftime, offensive tackle Guy Whimper checked in as an eligible receiver with 17 seconds left at the 1-yard line. Then this happened.

That made the score 14-12 in favor of Green Bay. The Jaguars had actually taken an early lead on a Josh Scobee 38-yard field goal, but the Packers scored two straight touchdowns: one on a pass from Rodgers to Randall Cobb, and the other on a blocked punt that Dezman Moses recovered for a touchdown.

A third quarter in which Jacksonville’s offensive output was negative-two yards paralyzed the offense and gave Rodgers the time he needed to get a drive going. That’s when he led the Packers on the seven-play, 52-yard drive that ended with the touchdown pass to Driver.

Green Bay kicker Mason Crosby added a 25-yard field goal with 28 seconds left as the Packers ran the clock off. That made the score 24-15, where it finished.

FANTASY STUDS AND DUDS

If you have stuck with Blaine Gabbert through thick and thin, today was thick. The Jaguars quarterback finished 27 of 45 for 303 yards and a touchdown, and Jacksonville wide receiver Cecil Shorts had eight receptions for 116 yards.

With Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson out, Donald Driver caught his second touchdown of the season. He had two catches for 10 yards and a score.

AGAINST THE LINE

The Packers came in a 16-point favorite, so the Jaguars covered for their fifth road game in a row. The over/under was set at 45, so those that took the under won out Sunday.

UP NEXT

The Packers host the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9, and the Jaguars will return home to host the Detroit Lions.
