Jaguars vs. Packers 2012: Blaine Gabbert impresses, but not enough in loss

SB Nation’s Jacksonville Jaguars blog, Big Cat Country, reacts to the team’s close loss to the heavy favorite Green Bay Packers

The Jacksonville Jaguars lost their fourth consecutive game, this time as heavy underdogs visiting the Green Bay Packers and falling by the score of 24-15.

Unlike Jacksonville's recent losses, this was a game the team had a chance of winning, even when few expected the team to be competitive against Aaron Rodgers and company. Some would even argue the Jaguars outplayed Green Bay, but came up just a few plays short of winning it. Still, Jacksonville now falls to 1-6 on the season - moral victories don't show up on the standings chart.

Adam Stites of SB Nation's Jaguars blog, Big Cat Country, reacts to the team's moral victory and explains what it means for quarterback Blaine Gabbert. The young quarterback played through an injury and impressed, arguably playing his best game as a pro, passing for more than 300 yards on the day.

The Jaguars’ season looks increasingly like a lost one that will result in many changes at the end of the year. Among the possible changes is the quarterback position, but if Gabbert only has a handful of games left to prove he belongs, he made a positive step towards doing so against the Packers.

Jacksonville will head back home and prepare to host the visiting Detroit Lions, who are coming off a late victory at home against the Seattle Seahawks.
