49ers vs. Cardinals 2012: San Francisco fans not worried about NFC West battle

The San Francisco 49ers fans are a lot more comfortable after Monday night’s win against the Arizona Cardinals. The victory gives the 49ers a two-game lead in the NFC West.

The San Francisco 49ers dominated the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football, 24-3. San Francisco, known for its stout defense, held Arizona to just seven rushing yards and stopped Larry Fitzgerald from scoring a garbage time touchdown at the end of the game.

With the way the Cardinals’ offense struggled to move the ball, and Alex Smith having perhaps his most brilliant individual performance as a pro (just one incomplete pass on the night), it’s no wonder that 49ers fans are growing even more confident in their team’s control over the NFC West division.

Earlier in the season, it seemed like the division would be competitive. The Cardinals jumped out to a 4-0 record, but they've dropped their last four games since. The Seattle Seahawks are also 4-4, but their wins against the Cowboys, Packers (amid controversy), and Patriots showed that San Francisco and Arizona didn't have the only teams in the division to take seriously.

But it’s four straight losses for the Cardinals and two straight for the Seahawks, whereas the 49ers have won two straight, both against Seattle and Arizona. Here’s some reaction from our 49ers blog Niners Nation:

The 49ers head into their bye week at the halfway point of their season, sitting at 6-2 and holding a two-game lead in the NFC West. The road division win is a big one as they are the first NFC West team to win a division game on the road. There is a lot of football left, but the 49ers have started to take some control in the NFC West.
