NFL odds Week 5: Browns vs. Giants

The New York Giants, coming off a loss to the Eagles, return home to face a winless Browns team as nearly double-digit favorites.

The winless Cleveland Browns head to the Meadowlands as heavy underdogs for their Week 5 matchup against the New York Giants. The oddsmakers initially favored the Giants by 13 points, but that has moved into single digits in most places, with many presumably affected by New York's Monday night loss to the Eagles. The Giants are currently favored by 9.5 points, with the over/under set at 44.

The Browns were double-digit dogs in their last game against the Ravens, but pushed Baltimore to the final play of the game before falling by seven. Cleveland's offense has showed signs of improvement at times, with rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden throwing for 300-plus yards in two of his first four career starts. But Weeden and the offense could be badly hampered by injuries on the outside, with wideouts Josh Cribbs, Travis Benjamin, and Mohamed Massaquoi all nursing injuries this week. The unit was already a weakness of the team, and the injury depletion makes things even tougher against the New York defense. The Giants have their own injuries on the offensive side, with Hakeem Nicks still bothered by a knee injury.

This was a potential letdown game for New York, with the Browns being competitive throughout the first month of the season. But after the loss to the Eagles, it’s likely Tom Coughlin has his team’s complete and full attention heading into Sunday as the heavy favorites.
