The Minnesota Vikings have not been favorites very often lately, but when it happens, they seldom cover the spread.

In 14 games as an underdog, Seattle is a moneymaking 11-2-1 ATS, making the 3-point NFL betting line a tempting one.

The Philadelphia Eagles hope to hold on to their spot atop the NFC East with a tough road win this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field.

Bettors get them as 3-point road underdogs, but many are focused on the OVER 43 wager because of an intriguing Pittsburgh trend.

You look at Cleveland’s nine-game road losing streak and wonder why anyone would bet on them Sunday as 10-point underdogs against the New York Giants.

But that record does not show they are 5-0-1 ATS in their past six road games - losing on the scoreboard, but winning at the sportsbook window.

The Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars have played five times since 1995 and the home has covered the spread each time.

If history repeats itself, that will mean a Jaguars cover as 5.5-point home underdogs Sunday in Week 5 NFL betting action.

New Orleans heads for its bye week with more motivation than any other NFL team and the Week 5 NFL point spread reflects this reality.

The Saints need this Sunday night win against San Diego badly and historically, they have been money in the bank in the week befofe their bye.

The Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs have never played an OVER in six games at Arrowhead Stadium dating back to 1980.

But this could be the week as handicappers make their Week 5 football picks and focus on the over-under of 46.5. Those six games have seen five bettors win five UNDER bets with a single push.

The Atlanta Falcons are favored to remain undefeated this Sunday when they visit the Washington Redskins at FedExField.

The Redskins will be trying to snap a five-game losing skid in games where they are home underdogs.

The Vikings opened as 5.5-point favorites, and that has moved to six points in some books. The over/under opened at 45 points - the Titans have allowed at least 34 points in all four of their games, hitting the over three times.

The Bengals opened as 4-point favorites, with some books bumping them up to 4.5-point favorites and others down to 3.5-points. The over/under opened at 43 points, a solid bet considering each team has hit the over in three of their four games.

This was a potential letdown game for New York, with the Browns being competitive throughout the first month of the season. But after the loss to the Eagles, it’s likely Tom Coughlin has his team’s complete and full attention heading into Sunday as the heavy favorites.

It has been the Broncos that have dominated the matchup for a while, although the Patriots have bested them in the last few games. In the last 23 games between the two AFC teams, the Broncos have won 17 straight up and 16 against the spread. However, the Patriots are 3-1 both straight up and against the spread in the last four games of the series.

The Seahawks have a big advantage on the defensive side of the ball. Seattle is second in scoring defense at 14.5 points per game, while the Panthers have given up 27.3 points per game. Seattle also has the ninth best pass defense, surrendering just 213 yards per game, and the second best rush defense, allowing 62.8 yards per game. The Panthers are 22nd against the pass (259.0 yards per game) and 25th against the rush (134.8 yards per game)

The Packers haven’t been very good against the spread as of late, though, particularly against the Colts, whom they are 2-5 against when factoring in the spread.

Perhaps the safer bet is the over, despite the 48 1/2 point over/under total being one of the highest of the Week 5 matchups. The Colts and the Packers have each hit the over in their first four games, making them a combined 8-0 in favor of the over.

The over/under total for Sunday’s game is set at 46, one of the higher marks for the Week 5 slate of games, but history would suggest that it should be lower. In 11 of the last 15 games for the Chiefs, the total has been under five of the last six times that the Ravens have visited Arrowhead Stadium.

Kansas City has been plagued by 15 turnovers in its first four games, and going against an opportunistic Ravens defense, it will have to take care of the ball if it hopes to pull the upset.

The over/under opened at, and remains at, 38.5 points, a total that history tells us will likely go towards the under. Averaging just 19.8 points a game, the Rams’ offense will have to put up points against one of the NFL’s best defenses, something they have struggled with in the past against the Cardinals. In seven of the last eight matchups between the two teams, the under has been the winning total.

The betting public got some revenge in Week 4, rallying behind blowout wins by the San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots to dominate the bookmakers.

Maybe the replacement refs were bad karma for bettors, because their luck turned as soon as the regular refs returned on Sunday.
