Cleveland Browns at New York Giants: betting odds, preview, trends, pick

Cleveland continues its loser reputation in 2012, but they have a much different rep with NFL bettors. Despite losing on the road and as a dog, they have been a profitable bet.

You look at Cleveland’s nine-game road losing streak and wonder why anyone would bet on them Sunday as 10-point underdogs against the New York Giants.

But that record does not show they are 5-0-1 ATS in their past six road games - losing on the scoreboard, but winning at the sportsbook window.

The Browns will have a tough time picking up their first win of the season this week when they visit the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium this Sunday. And more money is on the Giants (more than 60 per cent at some online sportsbooks such as Top Bet)

Through the first four games of the season, the New York Giants seem to be suffering from a bit of a Super Bowl hangover. Off to a 2-2 SU and 1-3 ATS start, the Giants have only looked really good in their 36-7 win on the road over the Carolina Panthers.

New York has two losses against division rivals (Dallas and Philadelphia) in which the Giants scored only 17 points. The Giants would love to make a statement at home this week with a big win.

The Cleveland Browns aren’t winning, but they aren’t losing big, either. Dating back to last year, Cleveland has now lost 10 straight games. But of those 10 losses, eight have been by 10 points or less as the Browns are 7-2-1 ATS over that stretch.

Can the Browns keep that tough-out mentality going this week against New York? Last week they covered the spread in a 23-16 loss on the road to the Baltimore Ravens.

These types of games are always tricky to handicap. If the New York Giants bring their A-game, they should be able to beat the Cleveland Browns by double-digits. But can the Giants be counted on to do so?

The Giants have put together only one complete effort on both sides of the ball this season while Cleveland has consistently kept it close against good teams with losses of a touchdown or less to Baltimore, Cleveland, Philadelphia.

New York is 8-2 SU over its last 10 games, but is just 3-6-1 ATS in its last 10 games at home. Going on what we’ve seen out of these two teams so far in 2012, all signs seem to point to the Giants winning outright, but the Browns picking up another cover ATS.
