Cleveland Browns reportedly will bring Joe Banner on board this year

The Cleveland Browns could be making some changes this year.

Eric P. Mull-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

New Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam could be making some front office changes after all. Haslam could announce Joe Banner as the team’s top executive at the Oct. 16 annual league meetings in Chicago, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. Banner’s arrival would likely signal the end of Mike Holmgren’s tenure as the team’s president.

The Browns’ previous owner, Randy Lerner, hired Holmgren in 2010. Since then, the Browns have won just nine games. Cleveland is 0-4 heading into Week 5 this season. Haslam could make more changes to the organization after the season, including at head coach. Pat Shurmur was hired in 2011 to replace Eric Mangini. General manager Tom Heckert could also be replaced. Holmgren would likely get a settlement to leave his post with the team.

Banner was an executive with the Philadelphia Eagles until earlier this year. According to La Canfora’s report, he would report directly to Haslam.
