Mike Holmgren denies interest in Cowboys job

Mike Holmgren has denied interest in coaching the Dallas Cowboys in 2013.

David Richard-US PRESSWIRE

It was reported that outgoing Cleveland Browns' president Mike Holmgren was interested in taking a coaching job with the Dallas Cowboys in 2013, but if you ask the man himself, he says otherwise. Mary Kay Cabot, a Browns beat writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, quotes Holmgren, who denies the supposed interest in Dallas.

Holmgren says that he doesn’t know how “any of that stuff gets started,” in regards to the rumors surrounding his interest in Dallas. He also said that the plan is “still to be here” in Cleveland and that he hasn’t talked to his agent, Bob LaMonte, in a month.

Lastly, Holmgren said he’ll be heading to Dallas for the Browns’ game against the Cowboys, and that he hopes to say hello to Jerry Jones. Holmgren is very clearly trying to get the point across that he’s working with the Browns right now, and that is his focus.

He also doesn’t want to insult Dallas coach Jason Garrett. Either way, you can now call this “conflicting reports,” though Holmgren himself seems a pretty credible source.
