Adrian Peterson injury: Vikings running back misses Friday practice

Minnesota Vikings’ star running back Adrian Peterson missed practice on Friday while the rest of his team prepared for a Week 9 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

Adrian Peterson has been battling soreness in his left ankle for several weeks, and on Friday he was absent from team practice, according to Dan Widerer of the Star Tribune. Peterson engaged in limited participation in practices on Wednesday and Thursday, but he missed the Friday session for unknown reasons.

The Vikings are coming off a stretch in which they played two games over five days – a win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7 and a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football in Week 8 – so it's possible head coach Leslie Frazier is just trying to keep Peterson fresh for Sunday's matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

Peterson has been particularly productive and explosive in recent weeks. He racked up 153 yards and one touchdown on just 23 carries against the Cardinals, and then he posted 123 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries against the Buccaneers. On the season, Peterson has rushed for 775 yards and four touchdowns on 151 attempts – good for 5.1 yards-per-carry average.

The Seahawks host the Vikings on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast on FOX.
