The San Francisco 49ers announced on Tuesday that they have signed inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman to a five-year contract extension.

The 49ers now have all four of their starting linebackers under contract through at least 2015.
Bowman's extension will keep the third-year pro in a 49ers uniform through the 2018 season, and means that the team has all four of its starting linebackers under contract through at least 2015. Fellow inside linebacker Patrick Willis is signed through 2016 and outside linebacker Aldon Smith – the NFL's sack leader – could be due an extension on his rookie contract sooner than later following the extension of Bowman's deal. Outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks signed a six-year contract in February that will keep him in San Francisco through the 2017 season.
Through 11 games on the 2012 campaign, the 24-year-old Bowman has amassed 100 tackles (68 solo), assisted on 33 tackles and added two sacks and one interception for the vaunted 49ers defense. The 6’0 linebacker out of Penn State was the 91st selection in the 2010 NFL Draft.
UPDATE: Albert Breer of the NFL Network is reporting the deal to be worth $45.25 million over five years. Bowman will receive $25.5 million guaranteed.
