NaVorro Bowman’s new deal reportedly worth $45 million

NaVorro Bowman got a contract upgrade, and the 49ers locked up another piece of their defense.

Linebacker NaVorro Bowman and the San Francisco 49ers agreed to a contract extension on Tuesday worth $45.25 million over five years, according to Albert Breer. Of that money, $25.5 million is guaranteed. The All-Pro linebacker gets a considerable raise next season, as he was set to make $575,000.

San Francisco avoided salary cap issues by paying much of the money out in bonuses. So Bowman will have to stay healthy -- and effective -- for the next five years to get his full pay. David Fucillo at Niners Nation considers the deal to be a win-win. Click here to get his take and to see the full terms of the contract.

Bowman and the rest of the 49ers’ linebacker corps are locked into long-term contracts. Aldon Smith’s rookie contract locks him up through 2014, while Patrick Willis and Ahmad Brooks are signed through 2016 and 2017.

This season, Bowman already has 100 tackles (sixth in the NFL) and two sacks. The 49ers rank second in the league with just 278.4 yards allowed per game.
