Ray Lewis injury: Ravens LB expects to return Week 15, according to report

Ray Lewis is on schedule to return in Week 15 from a torn triceps, which some thought would end his season, if not his career, when he suffered it Week 6.

Ray Lewis plans to come back in 2012 for the Baltimore Ravens despite a triceps injury initially described as season-ending, according to a report from ESPN.

The 13-time Pro Bowler tore his triceps Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys and underwent surgery soon after. He was added to the team's injured reserve list to open up a roster spot, but was designated for a potential return, a new wrinkle to the injured reserve system this year.

Lewis was allowed to begin practicing Thursday, although Ravens coach John Harbaugh said the linebacker is “day-to-day” and not anywhere near playing shape. He’ll be eligible to play in the Week 15 game Dec. 16 against the Denver Broncos, and is expected to be ready to go.

The Ravens have gone 4-1 since the injury with Dannell Ellerbe starting in Lewis' vacated middle linebacker spot.

Considering the 37-year-old Lewis is in his 17th NFL season and has cemented his status as one of the best linebackers of all time, some wondered whether the injury could mean the end of Lewis’ career, but he’s remained firm in his desire to come back, not just eventually, but this season.
