Ray Lewis injury: Ravens LB returns to practice, will not play this week

Ray Lewis will be returning to the practice field this week but will not be playing in Week 14 against the Washington Redskins.

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis will return to practice this week but will not be eligible to play in the team's game Sunday against the Washington Redskins, head coach John Harbaugh said on Wednesday.

Lewis is attempting to return to activity after tearing his triceps against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6. He has not played or practiced since.

Shortly after sustaining the injury, he underwent surgery and was placed on injured reserve in order to free a roster spot. However, the team designated him for return, which meant that he potentially could be reactivated if he was physically able to play.

Lewis potentially could make a return to the playing field as early as Baltimore's Week 15 meeting with the Denver Broncos, according to a report by Ed Werder of ESPN on Tuesday.

The Ravens currently sit at 9-3 and hold a two-game lead over the Pittsburgh Steelers for first place in the AFC North.
