Dolphins vs. 49ers, Week 14 reaction: Miami’s early effort falls short of fan expectations in loss

Despite holding the 49ers to just six first-half points, the Dolphins are unable to keep the pressure and intensity up in the second half, giving their fans another reminder that they can’t seem to string together a full game’s worth of effort.

Locked in a defensive battle at half, many Miami Dolphins fans were likely looking at Miami's meeting with the San Francisco 49ers as proof again that the Dolphins could hang with the league's best. But after the 49ers scored 21 in the second half and ran away with the victory as Miami fell to 5-8, fans were understandably disappointed with the outcome.

Over at The Phinsider, a season-long theme of the Dolphins being unable to put together a full game’s worth of effort reared its head again against the talented 49ers. At the end of the day, the defense just couldn’t hold the 49ers in check for a full 60 minutes. And the result was clearly a reflection of that inconsistency.

Miami cannot put 60 minutes of football together lately, and the results mean the team has lost five of their last six games.

Today’s game saw the Dolphins play the San Francisco 49ers tough throughout the day, only to watch it all slip away in the fourth quarter.

Certainly the Dolphins defense, led by a three-sack effort from Cameron Wake, was a bright spot early for the Dolphins. But that same defense allowed the 49ers Colin Kaepernick to complete 18 of his 23 pass attempts and post an above-100 passer rating.

The Dolphins defense came to play early in the game, including three sacks from Cameron Wake and another from Jared Odrick. Karlos Dansby tallied 12 tackles on the day.

Meanwhile, the 49ers saw Colin Kaepernick throw 23 times, with 18 completions, for 185 yards - a 100.2 passer rating.
