Dolphins vs. 49ers: Colin Kaepernick, Frank Gore get back on track

Over at The Phinsider, a season-long theme of the Dolphins being unable to put together a full game’s worth of effort reared its head again against the talented 49ers. At the end of the day, the defense just couldn’t hold the 49ers in check for a full 60 minutes. And the result was clearly a reflection of that inconsistency.

Certainly the Dolphins defense, led by a three-sack effort from Cameron Wake, was a bright spot early for the Dolphins. But that same defense allowed the 49ers Colin Kaepernick to complete 18 of his 23 pass attempts and post an above-100 passer rating.

Sure, that could be Kaepernick kissing just his biceps and not acknowledging his tattoos, but we like to think Kaepernick’s a little more self-aware than that. His body art really shouldn’t be a controversy, but it’s kind of become one. I guess this could be considered his definitive answer to any questions on the matter.

That’s Bush being picked up and thrown down like he was Whitner’s little brother. I’ll have to keep on the lookout for 27-year-old, 5’10, 208-pound pro wrestlers on the WWE circuit, though. Just to be sure.

Gore is not playing poorly, with 5.2 yards per carry, but hasn’t had many chances to touch the ball. It has been a defensive battle in San Francisco, but the 49ers will surely try to get Gore more involved in the second half. A single touchdown would turn Gore’s day into a success. He has seven touchdowns on the season, and three in the last four weeks.

Fantasy Impact: Granted he only has five carries, but Gore’s 5.2 yards per carry is his best average since Oct. 18. Expect the 49ers to turn a bit more to the ground game in the second half and try to get Gore going.

In his defense, Fields is a big punter and would definitely kick most of our asses, but there’s a hierarchy here. Apparently the hierarchy is just not what I thought it was.

Six of CBS Sports’ eight NFL experts are boldly picking the Dolphins to pull off the improbable upset, even though the Dolphins’ offense is ranked 27th in the NFL and the 49ers’ defense is ranked second in the league in total yards allowed.

Yahoo! Sports’ stable of experts made the 49ers their unanimous pick, thus proving that whatever aqua blue Dolphins Kool-Aid is being served at CBSSports.com’s headquarters is not on tap at Yahoo!.
