Bears vs. Vikings, Week 14: Mistakes hurt Chicago in defeat

Turnovers and penalties hurt Chicago on Sunday. Jay Cutler had one interception returned for a touchdown and another that set up Minnesota in scoring position.

The Chicago Bears fell 21-14 to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, dropping their record to 8-5. The defeat was the second in a row for Chicago, and it allowed Minnesota to pull within a game of the Bears in the NFC North standings.

As SB Nation's Windy City Gridiron pointed out after the game, some key mistakes by Chicago cost it a shot at victory. It was an interception returned for a touchdown in the third quarter by Minnesota's Harrison Smith that proved to be the difference in the game; that score put the Vikings up 21-7. Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler also threw an interception in the first quarter that set the Vikings up inside Chicago's 10 yard line, which led eventually to an Adrian Peterson touchdown.

Cutler completed 22 of 44 pass attempts for 260 yards.

In addition to losing the turnover battle, the Bears were penalized 10 times for 80 yards. The mistakes helped Minnesota pull off the win despite being outgained 438-248.
