Adrian Peterson now 505 yards away from NFL season rushing record

Adrian Peterson rushed for 154 yards during the Vikings’ win over the Bears on Sunday, and is now 505 yards away from breaking Eric Dickerson’s NFL record of 2,105 rushing yards in a season.

Adrian Peterson needs 505 yards rushing over the final three weeks of the regular season to break Eric Dickerson's NFL single-season record of 2,105 rushing yards set in 1984. Peterson rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries Sunday to help the Minnesota Vikings defeat the Chicago Bears.

Peterson now has 1,600 rushing yards on the season, and has gone over 100 yards rushing in seven straight games. On Sunday, he padded his stats with a long run of 51 yards against a team that had been giving up just 103 yards rushing per game. He twice put the ball in the end zone from the 1-yard line in the first quarter.

The slate doesn't get any easier the next two weeks. The Vikings visit the St. Louis Rams in Week 15 and the Houston Texans in Week 16, two teams giving up just 4.1 yards per carry on the season. Peterson comes home for the potential record-clinching game in Week 17, taking on a Green Bay Packers squad allowing 4.5 yards per carry.
