The Chicago Bears have placed kicker Robbie Gould on injured reserve with a calf injury, the team announced on Tuesday. To replace Gould, the team signed 16-year NFL veteran Olindo Mare after tryouts on Tuesday morning.

The Chicago Bears have placed kicker Robbie Gould on injured reserve, replacing him with 16-year veteran Olindo Mare.

Gould was injured prior to Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, and the team wasn't able to attempt long field goals. They were forced to punt it from the 35-yard line, rather than attempt a 52-yard field goal with punter Adam Podlesh.
During the game, Gould did kick extra points and was even in on an onside kick attempt late, so it’s unclear if he suffered a setback or if they found out the injury was much worse than it felt during the game.
Mare played for the Carolina Panthers in 2011, where he made 22-of-28 field goal attempts, good for 78.6 percent, which was his lowest since 2007, when he played for the Saints. He replaces the fourth-most accurate kicker in NFL history, as Gould boasts a career 85.6 field goal percentage.
