Bengals vs. Eagles 2012: Cincinnati fans relieved after victory over Philadelphia

Cincinnati Bengals fans felt relieved following their victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, and are looking forward to next week’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Cincinnati Bengals fans have been conditioned to expect the worst, and halfway through Thursday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, their fans began to panic.

Cincinnati had blown a nine-point fourth quarter lead earlier in the week against the Dallas Cowboys, and an ineffective first half had Bengals fans worried about their team's potential spot in the playoffs.

Josh Kirkendall at Cincy Jungle discussed the Bengals horrific first half, writing:

By the midway point in the third quarter, Dalton had been sacked six times, twice losing the football, turnovers that led to six points while the offense committed nine penalties with an offensive line that set pass protection back 30 years.

It was so horrifying seeing a Bengals squad with such an embarrassing performance, knowing the implications it would cause.

The team did turn the game around, eventually routing the Eagles 34-13. Philadelphia helped the Bengals by imploding, turning the ball over five times down the stretch.

The win pushes Cincinnati to 8-6 on the season, and gives them a half-game lead over AFC North rival Pittsburgh Steelers for the final wild card spot. Kirkendall started looking forward to the matchup, stating:

The Bengals will have the weekend off, scheduled to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on ten days rest (with a good amount of game-planning) in what figures to be the game that determines the final Wild Card spot.

The Bengals and Steelers met earlier in the season, with Pittsburgh claiming a 24-17 victory at Paul Brown Stadium.
