49ers vs. Patriots 2012: Niners take early 7-0 lead

The San Francisco 49ers have taken an early lead on the Patriots on, you guessed it, a Randy Moss touchdown.

Randy Moss got to face his former team, the New England Patriots, on a national stage Sunday night, and he didn't wait long to get revenge. Moss hauled in a 24-yard touchdown pass from San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick 4:05 into Sunday's first quarter to give the Niners a 7-0 lead on the Pats.

Kaepernick has wrenched the starting job away from Alex Smith this season, and he continues to play like the rightful starter. Besides throwing the Moss touchdown, Kaepernick is 5-7 for 55 yards. His counterpart on the Patriots, Tom Brady, hasn't played his best early, going 2-6 for 30 yards and an interception by Pro Bowler Carlos Rogers, which Rogers returned for 53 yards.

The game is still early, but it's rainy and cold, and the 49ers, with Frank Gore and Kaepernick, have the running game advantage over the Patriots, as well as the early score advantage. On the other hand, Brady knows something about playing in rough conditions. This should still be quite the game between two teams with Super Bowl aspirations.
