Lions vs. Cardinals, Week 15: Arizona shows resiliency in 38-10 win

The Cardinals played their best game of the season on Sunday, which ended a miserable losing streak.

The Cardinals ended their brutal nine-game losing skid during Week 15, knocking off the Detroit Lions 38-10 in front of a sparse home crowd. For a team that hadn't won a game since the final weekend of September, many who followed the team felt the players and coaching staff had totally given up on the season after losing by 58 points to the Seahawks last Sunday.

That just wasn’t the case on Sunday. As SB Nation’s Cardinals blog, Revenge of the Birds, detailed in their game recap, the whole team came to play against Detroit. It was their most complete performance, and for a squad so many felt had waived the white flag already, it was a pleasant surprise.

Maybe we were all wrong when we said that the Cards quit. It certainly looked like it. I also personally called for Whisenhunt’s job because the players had quit. If they did, they got back to fighting. Maybe Whiz didn’t lose the players. Otherwise, why would they have fought back so hard after falling behind against the Lions.

As Revenge of the Birds also noted, the Cardinals are now in somewhat of a precarious situation. Yes, winning games is always nice, but the team is out of the playoff race, and wins will only lower their spot at the draft. For a team with so many holes to fill, does it make sense to keep pushing the pedal to the medal for a couple of meaningless wins?

The remaining slate of games is not easy for Arizona. They’ll welcome in the Bears in Week 16, and then wrap up their season on the road in San Francisco.
