Wes Welker, New England Patriots set offensive records

The New England Patriots have the top offense in the league by far, and with 31 points - and counting - Sunday night against the San Francisco 49ers, some records have fallen.

First, with his five catches thus far, Wes Welker now has exactly 100 on the year, making him the first player ever to record 100 or more receptions in five seasons. Since coming to New England in 2007, he's done it five times in six years, with his career high being 123, in 2009. He had never recorded more than 67 in a season before coming to the Pats.

Second, with their 31 points, New England now has cleared 500, making them the first team in NFL history to do that in four separate seasons. They’re averaging 36.3 points per game - the only team in the league to average more than 30 per game - and that will only dip slightly with their effort tonight even if they don’t score any points.
